Trying to Get a Job
I am going through a lot of stress, loneliness, and depression. This can't be some sort of test – I don't feel the love of Allah (SWT) in me. This is because have been looking for a part-time job for two years now. I have applied everywhere, and had trust in Allah (SWT) that I would get a place somewhere. All my friends are working, and they have jobs which they got easily – so why haven't I got a job, when I trust in Allah (SWT) !

We are sorry to hear about the circumstances that you have been facing. When one finds oneself in circumstances like this, it can be very difficult to rise above the feeling of dejection. This all engulfing feeling can make the world seem so unyielding when it comes to you. The trouble with that feeling, is that it a reflection of the feeling, not the reality. Each person relates to a particular situation in a different way – that difference has a lot to do with the emotional tools that one was given and nurtured as a child growing up. If each person has a different perception of reality, then they are not only being unfair to themselves, but they end up being unfair to everybody else. For instance, take a look at your friends – to you your friends have done well, they have achieved what you have not been able to achieve, and therefore the logic is that there is something wrong with you. You are unaware of the battles and struggles that they have faced the compromises they have made, and the sacrifices. You remain oblivious to you, as you are so focused on unfortunate i.e… yourself.

Life is like a river that requires a leap of faith, if you have learnt to swim you will know how to navigate to a certain level, but what if you have not learnt to swim? Like yourself one will find that one is unable to go out, and get that job, or even more importantly, to discover what you need to do to overcome the obstacle/s. Instead you blame Allah (SWT). The quickest way to learn how to do this is with a good friend, who is prepared to be honest with you, and the second way is through a series of visits with a Life Coach who can help you too understand your life, and what you need to do to improve upon it. This might seem like a luxury right now, but really, you cannot get very far by not taking this precious time out to establish:

  1. Who you are
  2. Where you are
  3. How did you get there
  4. What can be done

Be patient with yourself, and then all the tension inside of you will dissipate. Once the tension dissipates, you will have more room for Allah (SWT)
